Ending trafficking and oppression of girls

Sokhun grew up in very rural Cambodia. When Sokhun was born, sex trafficking in Cambodia was at an all-time high. When women were found to be pregnant a common question would be, "Is it a boy or a girl?" If the pregnant woman answered "girl" a common response was, "your so lucky, you will be able to sell her and make a lot of money!" As Sokhun was growing up she had something else in mind. She so desperately wanted to go to school and learn that she would ride her bike for 2 hours to get to school. Sokhun ended up thriving in school and a local woman learned about her story and protected her from being put in the sex industry. Sokun was selected to receive a scholarship and was able to get a degree in Accounting from a respected university in Cambodia while also receiving 4 years of leadership training.

Sokhun is now a modern-day hero. She has returned to her village and has become a teacher. She has become a life-altering role model for the girls in her village and in neighboring villages. as well. Because of Sokhun's influence, the number of girls from her village forced into the sex industry has almost entirely stopped and the number of girls given the opportunity to go to school has risen dramatically!
