Ending maternal and child mortality

Eyea was born in war-torn Liberia. After 13 years of civil war Liberia had one of the highest rates of child mortality in the world. Forced to buy and sell in the markets at a young age, Eyea was finally given the opportunity to go to school. Eyea thrived in school and was selected to receive a scholarship to university and receive leadership training. Because of so many children dying around her throughout her life, Eyea decided to study Nursing.

Eyea graduated Nursing School with honors and was specially requested to provide care for a rural area of Liberia where child mortality was one of the highest in the country. Eyea is now delivering dozens of babies every month and has already prevented hundreds of deaths among newborns and their mothers.
